The View: Sankhya & the Yogic Worldview
Class Description
This workshop offers an accessible yet profound introduction to the worldview underlying classical yoga—the metaphysical framework that shapes how yoga understands consciousness, matter, suffering, and liberation. Together, we will explore: What is Sāṅkhya, and why is it essential to understanding the what yoga is about? How yoga helps us distinguish between consciousness (Purusha) and nature or matter (Prakriti) How this worldview explains suffering, identity, and the activity of the mind What liberation means in yoga—and how practice points us toward it. Designed for yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners alike, this session bridges philosophy and lived experience. Rather than approaching metaphysics as abstract theory, we’ll examine how this way of seeing directly informs practice, self-inquiry, meditation, and teaching—both on and off the mat.
