YOUR FIRST VISIT
Trying a new studio can bring a few questions. Here is what to know before joining us at Oxford Community Yoga or Hamilton Yoga Center.
You do not need to be flexible or experienced to begin. Whether you are looking for movement, relaxation, deeper study, or community, you are welcome here.

OUR STUDIOS
Choosing a Class
If you are unsure where to start, contact us. Let us know what you are looking for and any questions or access needs you would like us to consider. We can help you explore the available options.
Registration and Arrival
We encourage you to register online because space is limited. Drop-ins are welcome when space is available.
The studio opens at least fifteen minutes before class. Please arrive early enough to put away your belongings, settle onto your mat, gather any props, and take a few unhurried breaths.
Classes begin on time, and the front door may be locked once class starts to support security and uninterrupted practice.
What to Bring
Bring your mat if you have one and a water bottle with a secure lid. If you need to borrow a mat, no worries! We have plenty of extras.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and breathe freely.
Settling Into the Space
Please leave shoes, coats, bags, and other belongings in the designated area. Removing shoes helps keep the practice floor clean and is a gesture of care for our shared space. Silence your phone and put it away before class begins. We invite you to enter gently, allowing time for yourself and others to settle. Some students may be enjoying a quiet moment before practice.
During Class
Follow the teacher’s guidance while paying attention to your own experience. You are welcome to rest, ask for clarification, or choose an offered variation.
Let your teacher know about any concerns or needs you would like them to understand. You can share these privately before class.
There is no need to keep up with anyone else. Developing awareness of your own needs is part of learning yoga.
Breath, Meditation, and Chanting
Depending on the class and teacher, practice may include conscious breathing, meditation, Sanskrit mantras, or chanting “Om.” Participation in chanting is optional. If you choose to listen, please remain quiet while others chant. You are welcome to ask questions about unfamiliar practices.
Beliefs and Belonging
We honor yoga’s South Asian roots and its spiritual and philosophical depth. Students of all faith traditions and those with no religious affiliation are welcome. You do not need to adopt a particular set of beliefs to participate.
Tree of India is committed to a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, teachers, and guests across ages, races, cultures, abilities, religions, genders, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, and backgrounds.
If you have questions about physical access, class format, or accommodations, please contact us before your visit so we can discuss your needs and what is available.
Practicing Care
Ahimsa, often translated as non-harming, informs how we share the studio. We invite care in our words, movements, and interactions, including how we speak to ourselves.
You do not have to arrive feeling peaceful. Come as you are, with consideration for yourself and the people practicing alongside you. We’re happy you’re here.
